Introducing Docs Just Off 66
Where History Meets Hospitality
History Menus Text Club
Owners Steve and Casey Claypool took the helm of Doc's Soda Fountain, embarking on a journey to redefine this historic establishment which began as Decks Drug Store in 1884. Rebranded as Docs Just Off 66, their vision was to create a vibrant community hub and a must-visit destination for Route 66 enthusiasts.
Following a renovation, Docs Just Off 66 proudly opened its doors on June 18, 2022 with a full service restaurant, bar, ice cream, soda fountain and gaming area. The original soda fountain, installed in the drug store in the ’30s, retains its same space and location inside Docs. Nostalgic and historic old patent medicines, remedies, and early pharmaceutical equipment from the Deck Brother’s Pharmacy Museum are still a part of the nostalgic decor throughout the building, including the new lounge area.
This historic stop along Illinois Route 66 has been transformed into a must visit destination. So whether you're a local looking for a gathering spot or a Route 66 explorer seeking an authentic experience, Docs Just Off 66 welcomes you to enjoy the history, indulge in culinary delights, and create lasting memories.
Route 66
Located in Girard Illinois, Docs Just Off 66 is a must stop on the Illinois Route 66 Scenic Byway. Girard is located on the 1926 Alignment of Route 66 (now Illinois Route 4).
The most famous road in the world first came into being in 1926 as part of the new numbered highway system, and Chicago is where Route 66 begins. Route 66 defined a remarkable era in our nation’s history – and it lives on today in Illinois' many Route 66 roadside attractions, museums, and restaurants – it's the shining ribbon of blacktop we call 'The Mother Road'.
